The following article has been published by PC Tech Magazine here as an advance feature to promote the upcoming Innovation Africa conference to be held in Uganda later this month. (Note: Whitehead Communications is assisting Media Analyst with media management of the conference.)
Over 250 investors and corporate delegates participated in the 2014 forum, and they were able to maximize their time in Rwanda through the unique AfricanBrains pre-scheduled meeting system. These meetings, scheduled ahead of the conference in half-hour intervals, bring together innovators and business people, investors, government officials and other stakeholders to discuss and sign agreements that forge the future of ICT in Africa.
Last year’s pre-scheduled meetings were incredibly productive for the African ICT industry, with many business agreements signed, including: investing in the construction of a factory for laptops and mobile devices in Rwanda, training programs in Botswana, software applications in Kenya and South Africa, as well as curriculum development in Rwanda, Tunisia, Tanzania and the Republic of Congo, ICT for education in the classroom in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Cote d’Ivoire, investment in connectivity in Zambia, Namibia, Uganda and Angola, plus overall education infrastructure investment in Ghana, Nigeria and Liberia.
“It was amazing for Rwanda, not only for Rwanda but for Africa… We’ve met in 2 days 14 companies, it’s intense but it’s important.” Bakuramutsa Nkubito - Special ICT Advisor to the Minister, Rwanda Ministry of Education
“The meetings-based format of the event is aimed at the summit having genuine output both for investment and public private partnership. We have seen the results of previous Innovation Africa Summits where over $270m of new investments have been made in the education and ICT sectors as a direct result of these meetings between government and industry. We are expecting this year’s event in Uganda to yield such results whereby the bilateral meetings lead to real projects and tangible outcomes for the benefit of education in Africa,” said John Glassey
Innovation Africa 2015 is confirmed to take place in Uganda, 30 Sept – 2 Oct at Munyonyo Resort.
