A Canadian delegation from Dream for Uganda (not-for-profit organization) will be visiting Uganda October 14th to November 8th to support Cambridge Secondary School in Kyengera. Our mission is to create a sustainable way for Cambridge Secondary School students to support themselves by teaching performing arts skills, in addition to the Uganda’s secondary curriculum, so that they can become professional performers, producers and music teachers.
Cambridge Secondary School was started by Mrs. Kevin Kalule six years ago to provide education to orphans and other youth unable to afford an education, and it turns out that its students are incredibly talented in music, drama and dance. A Canadian journalist named Valerie Hill visited the school and she was so impressed that she formed Dream for Uganda with her friends in 2012. Dream for Uganda brought a group of students from Cambridge S. S. to tour Canada in 2013. Our mission going forward is to organize more Canadian tours and to empower the students by developing a quality performing arts program for Cambridge Secondary School.
This new performing arts program is exceptional because it blends together Western and Ugandan performing arts styles. We employ professionals from both cultures to teach the arts at a high level. Cambridge Secondary School will be accepting more students to this unique program in December.
The Dream for Uganda board is visiting the school with music and drama teachers. During the visit, we will write and record a song with the students, and film a music video and documentary about the evolution of Cambridge Secondary School, which will be screened at a Canadian film festival in 2015.
We are eager to learn more about Uganda, and create more awareness locally about the good work being done at Cambridge Secondary School and the rich performing arts curriculum in development there. Please contact us to schedule an interview.
